Leee Black Childers – Drag Queens, Rent Boys, Pick Pockets, Junkies, Rockstars & Punks
As Leee himself says “I have a pretty bizarre history — worked and/or lived with Andy Warhol, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Mott the Hoople, Johnny Thunders, Levi & the Rockats, Sid Vicious, Jayne County, The Star Spangles. I’ve toured all over the world and even been arrested in Russia by the KGB.”
But, what a history. His new book documents this amazing period through the lens of his camera. It’s likely photos will never again mean as much as they did through this heady period of the 60’s & 70’s. Times were a changing, and the most democratic & yet artistic access to the driving force of youth culture, was through the pictures of the likes of Leee Black Childers.
You can also catch Leee’s work at an exhibition at the The Vinyl Factory’s new space in Chelsea from 6th to 22nd December.
